Explain the `Diffusion of Innovation Theory`.

Diffusion is the process by which an innovation is communicated through certain channels over time among the participants in a  social system.

In his book `Diffusion of Innovation`, Everett Rogers (2003) explain the Theory of Diffusion of Innovation to mean a theory that seeks to explain how, why and at what rate new ideas and technology spread through cultures.

Diffusion manifests itself in different ways  in various cultures and fields and is highly subject to the type of adopters and innovation-decisions process. The innovation must be widely adopted in order to self-sustain.

Rogers proposes that four main elements influence the spread of new ideas:

1. The innovation itself, thus an idea, practice, or object that is perceived as new by an individual or other unit of adoption.

2. Communication channels, these are the means by which messages get from one individual to another.

3. Time, the innovation-decision period is the length of time required to pass through the innovation-decision process. `Rate of adoption is the relative speed with which an innovation is adopted by members of a social system`.

4. A social system, thus a set of interrelated units that are engaged in joint problem solving to accomplish a common goal.

COMBONI TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE AND COMBONI HOSPITAL ANNOUNCE MERGER

Comboni Technical Vocational Institute announced today that it will be merging with Comboni Hospital effective October 24, 2013. The two institutions` officials are expected to meet over the weekend to discuss employee benefits and retirement packages.

ComboTech officials expect this merger to improve investor confidence and widen its customer base.  Also ComboTech students will now access free medical services, access to low cost food at the hospital`s canteen and the hospital`s socialization areas.

The merger will permit Comboni Hospital to have custody of the medical records of all the Students and staff of Combotech and be fully responsible for their health need. The hospital will also be allowed to open sickbays on the school`s campuses.

More information is expected to be released following a shareholders’ meeting over this weekend.

The Comboni Technical Vocational Institute (COMBOTECH) was established in 1988 by Rev. Fr. Richard Novati of the Comboni Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, a society founded by an Italian Bishop called Daniel Comboni now named a Saint.

The Institute is located at Sogakope in a surburb called Comboni Centre, in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region. Combotech is part of the Comboni Complex of establishments made up of Basic Schools (KG, Primary and JHS), a Hospital & Mortuary, Restaurant, Bar, Provision Shop and a Printing Press.

Technical Institutes in Ghana work directly under the Technical Vocational Education Division of the Ghana Education Service, but Combotech works also with the National Catholic Council for Technical Vocational Education and Training (NCCTVET) meant to ensure the implementation of the Catholic TVET Policy from a Catholic TVET Coordinating Office under the auspices of the Socio-Economic Development (now Human Development) of the National Catholic Secretariat of the Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference.

It must be noted that the speedy development of Combotech and the future of TVET Implementation Project rested and rests with Council.

COMBOTECH has a 13-member Governing Board which provides oversight responsibilities for the Institute. In addition, has a vibrant Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which supports the school’s development projects; and an Old Students Association called Comboni Old Students Association (COSA)
